What Is Ramadan? Importance Of Ramadan In Islam
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Hijri year. And in the entire Hijri year, there is a special month of its kind and possessing divine attributes. The Hijri year starts from the time of the migration of Prophet Muhammad. When Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) migrated from Makkah to Medina with Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique (RA).
Ramadan Is A Reward From Allah Almighty
Millions of Muslims around the world fast and worship during the month of Ramadan. Because Ramadan is the holiest month of the year in Islamic culture. And one of the rewards of Allah Almighty is a great reward.
The Month Of The Revelation Of The Qur’an
Allah Ta’ala has revealed one of the great characteristics of this month that He revealed the Holy Quran in it. Who shows the straight path and is a source of guidance for mankind. And there is a book telling the difference between good and evil. Allah Almighty says:
Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and decisive authority. So whoever is present this month, let them fast. (Surah Baqarah:185)
Fasting Is An Important Pillar Of Islam
Fasting is one of the five fundamental pillars of Islam. Ramadan fasting has been made obligatory by Allah Almighty on every sane adult Muslim. Allah Ta’ala has chosen the holy month of Ramadan for fasting, which has special relevance to the Qur’an and is a month of special blessings and mercy.
Ruling On The Obligation Of Fasting
Allah Almighty revealed the obligation of fasting for Muslims after the Hijrah Allah Almighty says:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous. (Surah Baqarah: 183)
The Purpose Of Fasting
Saum means stop, And in the terminology of the Shari’ah, fasting means abstaining from every thing that breaks the fast with a specific intention from Sahr to Iftar. The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) says:
مَنْ لَّمْ يَدْعُ قول الزور، وَالْعَمَلَ بِهِ فَلَيْسَ لِلَّهِ حَاجَة فِي أَنْ يَدْعَ طَعَامَهُ وَشَرَابَهُ
If one does not eschew lies and false conduct, Allah has no need that he should abstain from his food and his drink. (Bukhari)
The purpose of fasting is to purify a person physically and spiritually and bring him closer to Allah. Therefore, we should increase our worship and recitation of the Qur’an in Ramadan. And give up bad habits like cigarette smoking, tobacco, alcohol etc. And repent from bad deeds, lying, backbiting, immorality, etc.

Importance Of Ramadan
Salmaan Farsi (R.A.) says that on the last day of Shabaan, Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) spoke us and said:
‘O People, there comes to you a great month now, a most blessed month, in which is a night greater in value and goodness than a thousand months. It is a month in which Allah Has made fasting fard (obligatory) by day and has made Sunnah the Taraweeh Salah by night. Whosoever wants to be close to Allah by doing any good deed, for such person shall be the reward like the one who had performed a fard in any other time and whoever performs a fard (obligation), shall be given the reward of seventy faraid (obligations) in any other time.’
This is indeed the month of patience and the reward for true patience is paradise (Jannah). It is the month of showing kindness to everyone. It is the month in which a true believer’s rizq (food, money, etc.) are increased. Whosoever feeds a fasting person in order to break the fast at iftar (sunset), for him there shall be forgiveness of sins and freedom from the fire of Jahannam (hell) and he shall receive the same reward as the fasting person (whom he fed) without the fasting person losing any reward.
Thereupon, we said, ‘O Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.), not all of us can afford to give a fasting person something to break his fast with.’ Prophet (S.A.W.) replied, ‘Allah gives the same reward to the one who gives a fasting person to break the fast, just one date or a drink of water or a sip of milk.’ (Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah)
Interpretation Of The Hadith Above
The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) gave this sermon at the end of the month of Sha’ban so that we know the importance of Ramadan. So that we don’t waste a single moment of Ramadan. And from this hadith, we know that the Taraweeh prayer has also been commanded by Allah Almighty. All Imams agree that Taraweeh is Sunnah. Being a month of patience means that through fasting the believer is trained to be steadfast in the path of God and to control his desires.
Whoever Is Deprived Of Lailat-ul-Qadr Is Deprived Of Every Good Thing
Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said when the month of Ramadan began, Verily, this month has presented itself to you. There is a night within it that is better than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of it has been deprived of all good, and none is deprived of its good but that he is truly deprived. (Sunan Ibn Majah)
The Person Who Has Not Been Forgiven Despite The Month Of Ramadan
Ka’b ibn Ujrah says that Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: Come near the pulpit so we came close. When He climbed the first step of the pulpit, He said Amin, When He climbed the second step, He said Amin. When He climbed the third step, He said Amin, When He came down. We said: O Rasulullah, today we have heard from you something which we had never heard before.
Rasulullah said, When I climbed the first step, Jibril (alaihis salam) appeared before me and said: Destruction to the person who found the blessed month of Ramadan and let it pass by without gaining forgiveness then, I said Amin.
When I climbed the second step, he said, Destruction to the person before whom your name is taken and he does not send durood on you. I replied to Amin.
When I climbed the third step, he said Destruction on that person in whose lifetime both his parents or either one of them reaches old age. and he fails to enter Jannah I said, Amin. (Mustadrak Hakim)
Break The Fast Of Ramzan Without Excuse
Abu Hurairah Raziyallahu Anhu says the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) said: Whoever breaks the fast of Ramadan without having a legitimate excuse or being ill. He cannot make up for that day. even if he were to undertake a perpetual fast. (Bukhari)
Virtues Of Ramadan
When Ramadan begins, Allah Almighty opens the gates of Paradise and closes the gates of Hell. And imprisons demons and rebellious giants. So that we worship Allah as much as possible in this blessed month and ask Allah to forgive our sins.
Abu Huraira Narrated Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said: Whoever observes fasts during the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith. And hoping to attain Allah’s rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven.
The Gates Of Heaven Are Opened In Ramadan
Abu Hurairah says The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said: “When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are put in chains. (Bukhari & Muslim)
The Reward Of Umrah In Ramadan Is Equal To Hajj
Ata narrated that Ibn Abbas said: Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said to a woman from among the Ansar.(Ibn Abbas mentioned her name but I forgot it) What kept you from performing Hajj with us? She said: We only have two camels and the father of her son and her son had gone for Hajj on one camel. And he left us the other camel so that we could carry water on it. He said: When Ramadan comes, go for Umrah, for umrah in (that month) is equivalent to Hajj. (Bukhari & Muslim)
Forgiveness Of 1 Million People Every Day In Ramadan
Ibn Abbas Raziyallahu Anhu says Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said: In Ramadan, every day at the time of iftar, Allah frees one million sinners from Hell. And all of them are those on whom hell has become obligatory. And on the last day of Ramadan, as many people are forgiven as were forgiven in the whole of Ramadan.
Special Rewards Of Allah In Ramadan
The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said: My Ummah has been given in Ramadan five things that no prophet before me was given.
1.The first is that on the first night of the month of Ramadan Allah gazes upon them and if Allah gazes upon someone, He will never punish them.
2. The second is the smell emanating from their mouths in the latter part of the day is sweeter in Allah’s sight than the scent of musk.
3. The third is that the angels seek forgiveness for them every day and night.
4. The fourth is that Allah says to Paradise: ‘Prepare yourself and beautify yourself for My slaves for they will soon find rest in My Abode in the place of My generosity after the hardship of this life.
5. The fifth is that they will all be forgiven on the last night.
Someone asked: “Is that Laylat al-Qadr? He replied: “No, look at workers: when they finish their work they are given their wages in full.
